Michael Shurtleff has been casting director for such directors as David Merrick, Bob Fosse, and Gower Champion, casting for many Broadway shows, including Beckett, The Odd Couple, and Chicago. He's the author of the universally praised book on acting Audition, as well as several plays, including Call Me by my Rightful Name, A Day in the Life of…, and plays collected in Come to the Palace of Sin; Plays about Ladies and Love. He's taught acting extensively across the country.

SC: I was wondering if you have anything to say about the unions.

MS: Equity is the enemy of the actor. I don't know why they allow their officials of that union to run it that way. They should all get up and revolt and throw them all out.
